Due to age, it is only normal for the neck skin to sag. Turtle neck, as it is also referred to, is a sign of aging and our neck is one of the first areas to get affected. With age, the collagen production in our body slackens and elasticity of the skin is lost. Loose skin under the neck could become evident after weight loss as well.
However, the difference it makes to the personality of the person, may not always be acceptable to them. So, what can you do? You can try different methods to get rid of the sagging skin of the neck and get it toned, again! Nevertheless, the method you choose to reduce the loose skin under your neck is important. It is but true that non-surgical methods will have a lasting effect on your loose neck skin compared to surgery. Here, I have listed all the methods that work. However, before we get to that, I have a suggestion. No method is going to work instantly. You need to give it time and patience. Be determined to make it work and don't quit till you are done!
Getting Rid of Sagging Neck Skin
The Right Diet Works Wonders
Sagging skin under the neck is called turkey neck because, the sagging neck muscles get so loose primarily due to aging, that it resembles the neck of a turkey. Now, the first method that I would suggest is more intrinsic in nature. Like you already know, diet makes a big difference to a person's features and skin. The sagging of the neck skin is often due to lack of moisture and dehydration.
Drink a lot of water and include food rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids, avocado and olives. These products will help increase the elasticity and quicken the impact of any of the exercises for the neck, that you may choose. Dry skin has more tendency to sag. Hence, it is important to keep the skin moisturized and healthy.
Facial Exercises that Obviate Sagging Neck
Pout your lower lip in a way that you feel your neck skin stretches. Next, place your fingers on your collarbone and pull it down. Hold it for 5 seconds and release. Repeat this at least 10 times. This will help stretch the skin and tone it. It also flexes the muscle, bringing it back into action. The skin will bounce back better after these sagging neck exercises.
Sit down on your couch and look up at the ceiling. Make sure your chin is pointing straight out at 90 degrees. Make sure your mouth is shut, not tightly, but shut nonetheless. Now, start performing the chewing action, like you are chewing a chewing gum. Carry it on till you have chewed 20 times on each side. When you are done, look back in front of you again. Repeat this exercise 3 times a day (minimum).
This is my favorite exercise and it really works. Not only can it help get rid of sagging neck, but it can also help in preventing the neck skin from sagging in the first place. Stand in front of a mirror and jut out your chin as far as you can. You will see your neck muscles stretch. Try to look as high as possible while maintaining your chin in the "jutted out" position. Hold it for about 10 seconds and resume to normalcy. Repeat this exercise 3 times a day, or more to tone the neck muscles.
Lie flat on the bed and hang your head down. Once you are in this position, bring your head towards your trunk and hold for 10 seconds. Lower your head after counting till ten after which, you can repeat this exercise for a minimum of 5 times.
Yoga is a great way to bring the body back into a toned and healthy shape. You can make use of yoga for your loose neck skin as well. The postures in yoga help tone the muscles to avoid and get rid of such aberrations. You can try out the Surya Namaskar (which is a session of 12 postures). It will not only tone the neck skin, but the other parts of the body as well.
You can also opt for a surgery such as a neck lift (like a facelift) and platysmaplasty to correct the sagging skin. Surgery, however, is a costly affair and has its own possible share of side effects, like infection, facial paralysis, etc. Neck or facial exercises are a natural way to stiffen the loose skin under your neck. There is a sense of accomplishment that one can experience by getting rid of it through exercises and correct diet.
