Madonna Goes Punk: Rags and An Outrageous Look That Screams of the Punk Rock Era
Madonna is turning back the clock to open her new world tour, sporting rags and an outrageous look that screams of the Punk Rock era.
The cone bras and corsets are gone for now. Even the lace and the short skirts won't be featured to start off with. Instead, it's time for safety pins and torn T-shirts. The Material Mom will kick off her new world tour this weekend in a wild '70s-style getup that'll make her look like an over-aged Sex Pistols groupie. The 42-year-old Queen of Pop is hitting the stage with zipped black trousers, a ripped shirt and a tartan mini-skirt for part of her "Drowned World" tour, which begins Saturday in Barcelona, Spain.
The retro style evokes memories of Madonna's early days, when she was best known for lace leggings, micro skirts and a punk image that catapulted her to the pinnacle of 80s pop stardom. The punk outfit is only one of several costumes Madonna plans to use on her tour, all of which are sure to be crowd pleasers the world over. Other outfits are rumored to include a cowboy outfit and a pimp getup, complete with fedora and chunky gold jewelry.
Among the array of hits the Queen of Pop will perform are: "Beautiful Stranger," "Ray Of Light," "Don't Cry For Me Argentina," "La Isla Bonita" and "Holiday." The tour will sweep across Europe before coming to the U.S., where the first show is scheduled for Philadelphia on July 21st. While Madonna spends the latter part of the summer blasting her way across the U.S., the outfits should get a little wilder along with the performances. We can't wait!
