Survivor: The Amazon
CBS has announced that the sixth installment of the Survivor series will be dubbed Survivor: The Amazon and will be the "ultimate battle of the sexes."
CBS’s sixth installment of the reality television series is set to premier on February 13 and will be hosted once again by Jeff Probst. Since ratings have been slowly slipping, the powers that be at CBS have decided to put a new twist on the show, pitting the men against the women. The two tribes will consist of eight players each; the men of Tambaqui will compete against the women of Jabaru. The group will spend 39 days in the tropical forest in Brazil and will be competing against one another for the million dollar prize.
Besides pitting men against women, a few changes will be seen this season. In three of the last five installments of the show, the Survivors were island–bound. In this version the players are landlocked. Also, one of the contestants is deaf, which marks the first time any of the contestants has had a physical disability. The players range in age from 21-56, most being in their 20’s and early 30’s. There are six married players and ten singles. The players include an actor, a model, triathlon coach, a child adventure guide for the deaf, and a deputy district attorney, among others.
In the ongoing ratings battle of Survivor and Friends, it seems Friends is slowly but surely pulling away. Even with this being the case, producers have already given the green light to a seventh season of backstabbing, broken alliances, and immunity challenges at an undetermined location. The question remains, how long can they keep surviving in the ratings race? With the multitude of new reality series popping up every season, will Survivor become extinct after their seventh season?
