It's Vegas! It's the AVP Shootout! (Day 2 Results)
The men's and women's semifinals are set for the AVP Shootout, the season ending pro beach volleyball event being held in Las Vegas this weekend.
The semifinals for both the men and women are set for Saturday's action at the Aquafina Shootout presented by Bud Light at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.
Friday's women's action continued with the number two seeded team of Holly McPeak (Manhattan Beach, CA) and Elaine Youngs (Durango, CO) defeating the seventh seeded team of Linda Hanley (Pacific Palisades, CA) and Liz Masakayan (Los Angeles, CA) 21-10, 21-11. This was the last tournament for Hanley and Masakayan who made their decision to retire at the Manhattan event in August.
The other women's match featured third seeded Annett Davis (Tarzana, CA) and Jenny Johnson Jordan (Valencia, CA) battling sixth seeds Lisa Arce (Redondo Beach, CA) and Rachel Wacholder (El Segundo, CA). Davis and Johnson Jordan beat Arce and Wacholder 22-20, 21-10.
Men's action featured the number one seeded team of Brent Doble (Dana Point, CA) and Karch Kiraly (San Clemente, CA) taking on the eighth seeded team featuring 2000 Olympic Gold Medallist Eric Fonoimoana (Manhattan Beach, CA) and Dax Holdren (Santa Barbara, CA). Doble and Kiraly were eliminated in two games 21-15, 21-17.
Saturday's play will feature the number one seeded and undefeated team of Misty May ((Long Beach, CA) and partner Kerri Walsh (Redondo Beach, CA) taking on Carrie Busch (El Segundo, CA) and Leanne Schuster McSorley (Manhattan Beach, CA).
The other women's semifinal will team up the second seeds Holly McPeak (Manhattan Beach, CA) and Elaine Youngs (Durango, CO) and third seeds Annett Davis (Tarzana, CA) and Jenny Johnson Jordan (Valencia, CA).
Men's semi play will include Scott Ayakatubby (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Brian Lewis (San Clemente, CA) against Eric Fonoimoana (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Dax Holdren (Goleta, CA). The last semifinal of the night will feature Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, CA) and teammate Larry Witt (Santa Ynez, CA) battling Dain Blanton (Los Angeles, CA) and Jeff Nygaard ((Los Angeles, CA).
The winners of both the men's and women's semifinals will meet later on Saturday evening to determine the victor of the $150,000 Aquafina Shootout presented by Bud Light.
