Tony Blackburn

Tony Blackburn may be best known for his terrible jokes and tea-cosy haircut, but he is now favourite to win I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here. So here's a web guide to the great man.

1. Tony Blackburn is taking I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here by storm. He may have only won two meals in the daily Bush Tucker Trial by guiding snakes through a maze, but bookies have made him 2-1 favourite to win the jungle gameshow.

2. Tony started his career on pirate radio station Caroline and was the first DJ to spin a disc on BBC Radio One when it launched in 1967.

3. He went on to work for London's Capital Gold radio station. At BBC Radio London, Tony had to change his name to Mark Roman so he could present a show called the Roman Empire.

4. Awards have been heaped upon the veteran disc-jockey - 36, to be precise - including a gold award for outstanding contribution to radio and a Sony Radio Award for best contemporary breakfast show.

5. He is clearly a legend in his own (vegetarian) lunchtime. He may have played the fool in Crinkley Bottom on Noel's House Party, but, according to one graphic website that we weren't allowed to include, he has a very smooth posterior. So, here's his recipe for Mango Fool instead.

6. As presenter of Top of the Pops during the late 1960s and 1970s he hated the Sex Pistols. His dream music line-up would include Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye. He also admitted to having a crush on Petula Clark.

7. Tony is a bit of a romantic at heart, releasing three singles in 1965/6 with Fontana Records including It's Only Love and So Much Love. Although he has written 200 songs, he has only had one published.

8. On Channel 5's Saturday Night Fever, Tony broke his leg. This was part of a spell of bad luck which all started when Capital Gold spent £300,000 on advertising his drive time radio show, depicting the veteran star as Austin Powers - Yeah baby.

9. With retro back in fashion, no wonder Tony's become trendy. He even DJ-ed in Ibiza. He's also a favourite with the older generation presenting a show on satellite home-shopping channel QVC.

10. His greatest threat in the final of I'm A Celebrity... is Nell McAndrew. But now he's scaled the rocky heights of reality television, what's next for Tony Blackburn? Pop idol, movie star, prime minister? Watch this space. In the immortal words of the man himself: "Have lot's of fun, be good and bye for now - goodbye everyone."
