DJ Chris Evans secures seven-figure book deal

For years every twist of his life has been closely tracked by the tabloids, making it tricky to imagine what revelations an autobiography by Chris Evans might contain.

But it emerged yesterday that a publisher is paying the former television presenter and radio disc jockey a seven figure sum for his life story.

Evans has already handed over sections of the book to HarperCollins, whose executives are said to be impressed by his "strong, lively, original" voice.

The book, which will be called Little Bigshot, is scheduled to be published in the autumn of next year.

Evans said: "I have been writing most of my life, but it's good to have the chance to write at greater length and to make sense of what's been happening around me."

The book will, according to the publisher, be the "full and frank account" of 36-year-old Evans's early life, his first steps in broadcasting and the "turbulent times".

He has often been a controversial character and had spectacular fall-outs with employers which led to him leave BBC Radio 1 and Virgin Radio.

His relationships have included a reported fling with former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, who received a lucrative fee for her autobiography Just For The Record.

Evans, now married to the pop star Billie Piper, has said he is fed up of presenting and wants to concentrate more on behind-the-scenes work. Later this month he will produce a new show for Channel 5 featuring the Radio 1 disc jockey Chris Moyles, and a Channel 4 show is also planned.
