Top 25 high school football rankings -- Week 2

The updated top 25 rankings for the nation's high school football teams.
This week's Top 25 shows little change as neither of the co-preseason number one teams started their seasons. Two teams have lost since the preseason poll was released and fell out of the Top 25. All the schools will be in action this week as high school football finally reaches full swing.

The two new entries to this week's Top 25 include Mt. Carmel of Chicago, who knocked former No. 7 team Joliet Catholic out with a big 35-21 victory in front of a crowd estimated at nearly 8,000. Washington High of Massillon debuts in the Top 25 after a couple of impressive early-season victories.

T1. De La Salle, Concord, CA (0-0) Preseason Rank: T1 Result: None, season begins with a tough game at Clovis Buchanan, currently rated seventh in the West region, on Saturday.

T1. Poly, Long Beach, CA (0-0) Preseason Rank: T1 Result: None, season begins at home against Westchester of Los Angeles on Friday.

3. Lincoln, Tallahassee, FL (1-0) Preseason Rank: 3 Result: Opened season with 35-19 victory over North Florida Christian, one of the toughest small school teams in the state of Florida. Antonio Cromartie had two interceptions, returning one 77 yards for a key touchdown.

4. Jenks, Jenks, OK (1-0) Preseason Rank: 4 Result: Won a tough one 28-14 over Bixby as the offense struggled to find the end zone. Darnell McLaurin had one of the touchdowns on a 94-yard interception return and QB Jeff Hirschburg threw for 2 TD's.

5. Lufkin, Lufkin, TX (0-0) Preseason Rank: 5 Result: None, season begins at Beaumont Central on Friday.

6. West Monroe, West Monroe, LA (1-0) Preseason Rank: 6 Result: Defeated Sulphur 21-7 as RB Demario Taylor ran for 108 yards on just 13 carries, scoring twice.

7. Glades Central, Belle Glades, FL (1-0) Preseason Rank: 8 Result: Extended its winning streak to 36 straight games, best in the state of Florida, with a 39-6 win over Royal Palm Beach. Curtis Holley threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns, despite completing only nine passes for the game.

8. Woodland Hills, Pittsburgh, PA (1-0) Preseason Rank: 9 Result: Shutout North Allegheny 25-0 as Kareem Detrieuille rushed for 187 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns, including a 99-yarder to cap the scoring.

9. Evangel Christian, Shreveport, LA (1-0) Preseason Rank: 10 Result: Defeated Longview, TX 27-7. Thomas Bachman had six receptions for 103 yards and 2 TD's and the defense shut down Longview's passing game with six sacks. 10. Independence, Charlotte, NC (2-0) Preseason Rank: 11 Result: Began season with 77-13 blowout of Austin-East (Knoxville, TN), then followed it up with a 29-19 win over Charlotte Providence with three starters sidelined, including top wideout Eric Lyon, out four weeks with a knee injury.

11. St. Ignatius, Cleveland, OH (2-0) Preseason Rank: 12 Result: Won first two games in impressive fashion, defeating Toledo St. John 42-7 to open the season, then notching a 47-20 win over Youngstown Boardman. Against Boardman, Ed Szep threw for a school-record 360 yards and five touchdowns.

12. Parkview , Lilburn, GA (1-0) Preseason Rank: 13 Result: Defeated McEachern 38-0 in Corky Kell Kickoff Classic on Aug. 25 in Georgia Dome. Had last weekend off.

13. Westlake, Austin, TX (1-0) Preseason Rank: 14 Result: Shutout San Antonio MacArthur 35-0 last weekend. Chad Schroeder threw for 200 yards and three TD's in one half of play. The game was stopped at halftime due to unsafe weather conditions.

14. Greenwood, Greenwood, SC (2-0) Preseason Rank: 15 Result: Defeated Emerald 41-14 and Abbeville 22-6. Against Abbeville, Dvon Hill had nine catches for 198 yards. They have a tough test this week with a Dorman team that knocked Lexington out of the Top 25 with a 56-21 shellacking to open the season.

15. Colerain, Cincinnati, OH (2-0) Preseason Rank: 16 Result: Opened with two easy wins, 53-19 over Harrison and 65-6 over Cincinnati Hughes. Against Hughes, Colerain had 58 points at the half before subbing freely through the second half. Hughes was held to 23 yards of total offense.

16. Harrison, Farmington Hills, MI (2-0) Preseason Rank: 17 Result: Started season with two relatively easy victories. The most recent was a 56-13 blowout of Plymouth Salem. Marcus Woods ran for 168 yards and three scores, while Agim Shabaj found the end zone twice on four receptions totaling 122 yards.

17. Mt. Carmel, Chicago, IL (1-0) Preseason Rank: NR Result: Knocked former No. 7 Joliet Catholic out of the Top 25 with a 35-21 victory. Greg Owens ran for 156 yards, including two touchdowns. Tom Brown added 113 yards on the ground and a touchdown as Mt. Carmel dominated the line of scrimmage throughout this game.

18. Santa Margarita, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA (0-0) Preseason Rank: 18 Result: None, season begins this week against Don Lugo Ayala.

19. Ben Davis, Indianapolis, IN (3-0) Preseason Rank: 20 Result: Has had a tough schedule to start the season, but has made it through without a blemish. Began season with 33-0 win against Indianapolis Cathedral, and followed it up with a 13-6 win over Penn (Mishakawa). Defeated a tough Warren Central team this week 38-28 as Warren Phillips rushed for 195 yards.

20. Lee, Midland, TX (1-0) Preseason Rank: 21 Result: Defense was strong in a 25-7 win over Stephenville. RB Jacobe Kendrick left the game with a knee injury and may be out for 2-3 weeks. Stephenville was held to just 27 yards rushing in the first half and under 200 total yards for the game.

21. Bethlehem Catholic, Bethlehem, PA (1-0) Preseason Rank: 22 Result: Defeated a tough Parkland squad 29-7. Eddie Scipio had two touchdowns and 154 all-purpose yards. A tough test this week against Poly Prep of Brooklyn, rated No. 8 in the East Region.

22. Gilbert, Gilbert, AZ (0-0) Preseason Rank: 23 Result: None, opens season on Friday with a home game against Amphitheater (Tucson).

23. Rockhurst, Kansas City, MO (1-0) Preseason Rank: 19 Result: Struggled to defeat Oak Park 19-14. Jeff Snodgrass hit field goals of 25 and 35 yards that led the Hawkletts to the victory. Another tough matchup this week with highly-touted Blue Springs.

24. Elizabeth, Elizabeth, NJ (0-0) Preseason Rank: 24 Result: None, opens season Friday at home against Kearny.

25. Washington, Massilon, OH (2-0) Preseason Rank: NR Result: Won first two games in convincing fashion, defeating Westerville South 41-7 and took care of Mt. Lebanon, from just outside of Pittsburgh, 54-20. QB Justin Zwick threw for five touchdowns and David Abdul blasted a 51-yard field goal against Mt. Lebanon.

Dropped Out: No. 7 Joliet Catholic, Joliet, IL lost to Mt. Carmel 35-21. No. 25 Lexington, SC lost to Dorman 56-21.
