Ellen DeGeneres’s Ex (Anne Heche) Gets Hitched & Crazy

Anne Heche and Ellen DeGeneres began dating in April of 1997 and had a very public affair until August 2000. Pre-Ellen, Heche had been romantically linked with Steve Martin and Richard Burgi. Her father was a closeted homosexual who died of complications from AIDS, and hid his homosexuality from his family until prior to his death. Heche is quoted in Cosmopolitan magazine in May 1997 as saying, " I put a very high premium on honesty. What I learned from (my father’s) death is that if you don’t accept your sexuality, it will kill you."

Ironically, Heche met her husband on a documentary she was directing of her then lover’s return to stand up comedy. Shortly thereafter she appeared on a doorstep in Fresno, California mumbling incoherently. She apparently seemed to be under the influence of drugs (she later admitted it was Ecstasy) and was taken to a hospital and released after a few hours.

Heche seems to have her life back on track; marriage to Laffoon, a much talked about interview with Barbara Walters airing on Wednesday and her new book Call Me Crazy will hit bookstores this Thursday. Is that an appropriately titled book? It remains to be seen. ABCNEWS.com states she says that she was "insane" for a good part of her life. The interview with Barbara Walters will reveal many other secrets from Heche’s past, Walters promises. For now, Heche seems to be back down to earth and seems to be enjoying life with her new husband and their dog, Lucinda. What comes next? I guess only time will tell.
