Harrison Ford and Wife Melissa Mathison, call it Quits-Again
The attempt at reconciling their 18-year marriage ends with wife, Melissa Mathison, filing for legal separation on August 23rd.
The news came as a shock to family and friends who thought the couple could work through their troubles. Ford and Mathison met on the set of Apocalypse Now in 1976 and were married in 1983. They have two children, Malcolm, 14 and Georgia, 11. The couple is seeking joint custody of the children. A recent quote in People magazine, Ford’s manager Patricia McQueeney stated, "The separation was amicable and the couple remain friendly."
It has been widely speculated that the original separation in October was due to Ford’s midlife crisis and his penchant for being moody. During the time they were separated, Ford was spotted club hopping and leading a very social single life. The couple began seeing each other this past spring and there had been much hope that they would succeed in their reconciliation. Apparently Ford has been tight lipped on the situation and Mathison has hired Tom Cruise’s divorce lawyer, Denise Wasser, according to People magazine.
In his spare time, Ford has taken on the role of "rescuer." He has used his helicopter twice in two years to aid in rescuing two lost campers, the latest being a 13-year-old Boy Scout who was lost overnight. Too bad, Ford couldn’t rescue his marriage. What does the future hold for Ford, formerly one of People’s Sexiest Men Alive? More club hopping, helicopter rescues, possibly a romance? Hey Harrison, Nicole Kidman is single and since your exes share an attorney, maybe you and Nic could share dinner sometime...just a thought.
