FX Announces Inaugural Nascar Winston Cup Series Schedule For 2001 Network's Live Coverage Features Three Winston Races
Pontiac Excitement 400, Richmond International Raceway, May 5, 7:30-11PM ET The Winston, NASCAR's All-Star Race, Lowe's Motor Speedway, May 19, 8-11PM ET K-Mart 400, Michigan International Speedway, June 10, 1-4:30PM ET FX Race Analysts Are NASCAR Legend Darrell Waltrip & Larry McReynolds NEW YORK, NY -- (INTERNET WIRE) -- 09/26/00 -- FX waves the flag for its inaugural season of live television coverage of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing in February, and the network's first season schedule of NASCAR features three Winston Cup Series events. FX will also provide live coverage of Busch Series events throughout the first half of the NASCAR season (Busch series telecast schedule will be released at a later date). FX will televise back-to-back primetime Winston Cup Series races in May, and one afternoon Winston Cup event in June. The Winston Cup makes its FX debut on Saturday, May 5 (7:30-11PM ET) with the Pontiac Excitement 400 from the Richmond International Raceway. Two weeks later, on Saturday, May 19 (8-11PM ET), FX brings viewers all the action from The Winston, NASCAR's All-Star race, from the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., one of the leading candidates for 2000 Rookie of the Year honors, took home the checkered flag in both of these races this year. FX's final Winston Cup event, on Sunday, June 10 (1-4:30PM ET), is the K-Mart 400 from the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. Tony Stewart captured this year's K-Mart 400 title. NASCAR racing legend Darrell Waltrip and veteran crew chief Larry McReynolds will provide expert analysis for Winston Cup Series races on FX. NASCAR on FX, produced by FOX Sports, will possess its own distinctive and unique on-air look. The network will develop special print and electronic marketing campaigns featuring NASCAR drivers designed to capture a more in-depth, personal look at these superstars of racing. In 2001, the first of an eight-year agreement, FX will pair with its broadcast partner FOX Sports for live, weekly coverage of the first half of the NASCAR season. NBC and Turner Sports will provide weekly coverage for the second half of the NASCAR season. FX is a branded general entertainment basic cable network geared toward viewers with a young, savvy mindset.
