Redskins release Jeff George

The Redskins released Jeff George today, after a pathetic 0-2 start with him as their starting quarterback.
Monday night's 37-0 thrashing at the hands of the Green Bay Packers was one of the most embarrassing performances in Washington Redskin history.

It was also the final game for Jeff George in a Washington uniform. The Redskins released George on Wednesday after leading the team to only three points in their first two games.

George has not thrown a touchdown, but has thrown three interceptions. He has looked confused trying to run Marty Schottenheimer's conservative, short passing game. George was clearly trying to freelance, which caused him to be out of sync with his receivers. He also hurt himself by holding on to the ball too long.

George is not the only person responsible for the Redskins pathetic start. The defense has given up 67 points and a ton of yards. The offensive line has not been able to pass or run block effectively. Marty Schottenheimer looks like he has no control over this team, which is not surprising.

It looks like Tony Banks, who was released by the Cowboys, will start this week against the Kansas City Chiefs. They also signed Kent Graham, who recently was released by the Steelers.
