Anna Nicole Smith Cleans Up for Court

After battling numerous personal problems under the microscope of public scrutiny, Anna Nicole Smith has gotten her act together.
As the time approaches for the former Playboy Playmate's turn on the witness stand in the case to determine the distribution of J. Howard Marshall's estate, she has made a great effort to put weight problems, drug addiction, and various fashion gaffes behind her. Smith will leave her cleavage-baring outfits behind during the trial in favor of more staid attire and has even hired an acting coach in order to make a good impression on jurors as she attempts to fight for her share of the her deceased husband's fortune.

Marshall's estate, estimated to be worth as much as $1.6 billion, is apparently out of the grasp of the blonde bombshell, with Smith's name being curiously absent from all legal documentation surrounding the fortune. Under Texas law, Smith is entitled to only half of the income Marshall earned while the two were married, a period of less than one year that found Marshall take in just over $1 million in investment income. During their marriage, it is estimated that the tycoon spent roughly $8 million dollars on his young bride, including the purchase of jewelry, cars, a ranch, and a house.

Marshall, who died in 1995 at the age of 89, is survived by his stepson, E. Pierce Marshall, who will battle Smith in court for the lion's share of the estate. The former model's attorney, Tom Cunningham, has stated that he is confident that Smith will receive a fair portion of the fortune, an amount that he undoubtedly expects to be more than the roughly $500,000 she is entitled to under Texas law.
