Harvest Time for Owen and Heights

September 27: Michael "goal drought" Owen may have hit a dry spell but he should be on target as an owner at Ascot today when Treble Heights runs in the Harvest Stakes.
ected.

The Home Office refused to speculate yesterday on how many Sangatte residents will qualify for refugee status, but did confirm that Mr Blunkett had agreed half would colours in the Harvest Stakes.

Treble Heights (2.35) has the makings of a smart filly and she has strong claims in this Listed race after putting up a brave show against Alexander Three D in the Group 3 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster on only her second outing.

She finished just a neck ahead of third-placed Bright And Clear at Doncaster, but is entitled to come on again for that run, particularly with the John Gosden stable in such good form.

On a trappy card, Gosden should also go close with Mahroos (4.20) , and Ian Balding's Vanderlin (3.45) could defy a wide draw in the Sodexho Handicap. The drop back to six furlongs is in his favour.

Rock Of Gibraltar and Hawk Wing were among the eight horses declared for tomorrow's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at the 48-hour deadline yesterday, but only six are likely to turn out for the £300,000 feature at Ascot.

Rock of Gibraltar has been left in purely as a potential substitute for Hawk Wing should the ground soften, while Luca Cumani will not run Gossamer unless there is appreciable rain.

The ground looks like riding fast. "The whole of the course was finished watering last night and we just put a little bit on a very small area going down the hill today," said clerk of the course Nick Cheyne yes terday. "We have allowed it a whole day to settle down and we have no plans to water again at this stage. The forecast is for it to stay dry."

Frankie Dettori has not given up hope of defeating Hawk Wing for the second time this month when he partners Noverre for Godolphin in the Group One race.

Dettori brought Grandera with a late burst to pip Hawk Wing on the post in the Irish Champion Stakes three weeks ago.

Best of The Bests, who was only a neck further behind in third at Leopardstown, will again give Godolphin a second string to their bow.

"Obviously we have a few aces up our sleeves," Dettori said. "We know that Hawk Wing is beatable, but he is a very talented horse."

Bookmakers Paddy Power offer O'Brien's selected from Hawk Wing and Rock Of Gibraltar at 4-9. They then bet 8-1 Best of The Bests, Where Or When, 9-1 Gossamer, 10-1 Noverre, 16-1 Tillerman, 25-1 Sholokhov.

Ten fillies are due to contest tomorrow's other Group One race at Ascot, the Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile. James Fanshawe's Soviet Song is 13-8 favourite with the Tote, with Rainbow Queen next in at 4-1.

Top-notch sprinter Kyllachy has run his last race after being retired to Cheveley Park Stud. On returning to the stables of trainer Henry Candy following his latest success, Kyllachy was troubled by stiffness in his joints and underwent x-rays on his knees.

Although he started to recover, Kyllachy could not be got ready for the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp on Arc Day, which would have been his last race.
