Pats dodge the arrow in OT 41-38

This past Sunday the Patriots went into the game against the Kansas City Chiefs undefeated and came out undefeated, but not without a fight. Mista Sinista explains it all in this week's Sinista Thoughts.
Sinista Thought: "0 & 3 for the most overrated team in the NFL... Mike Martz, Mike Martz... Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha you gonna do when they come for you?"

"Remember that movie the Matrix? Remember the scene on the rooftop when Neo dodges the Agent's bullets in super, digital, 360 degree, slo-mo. That was the equivalent to the Pats game with the Chiefs last Sunday out at The Razor."

Now if you remember correctly, just before Trinity blows off the Agent's head after telling him to "dodge this," Neo did take a grazing from one of the bullets. Well, the Pats took some hits of their own with four guys going down during the game.

With Roman Phifer (leg) and Tedy Bruschi (shoulder) already out of the lineup it hurt to see Damien Woody, Joe Andruzzi, Troy Brown, and Kenyatta Jones go down. Now as I write this article the word on Brown is day to day, but Andruzzi's injury seems to be much worse so we'll have to wait till Wednesday afternoon when the injury report gets released. As for Woody and Jones, Woody came back into to game while Jones also remained in.

Despite this downside, the Pats were able to overcome a "horrible" first quarter to set this game into perspective, and with that I must warn that with what I'm about to say there may be some upset Dolphins fans, and Patriot bashers who haven't climbed on the bandwagon yet.

The fluke callers are saying their "I told you so's" after this past Sunday, and a few may be teetering off the bandwagon, but there is one thing in this win that you can't deny. That the fact is the Pats came the real close to losing, and if they had it would have been well deserved with 100 yards in penalties, a boatload of missed tackles, and two wide-open dropped passes.

The team bounced back in the second, established the run, and took the Chiefs defense out of the game with a balanced attack, coupled with the record breaking heroics of WR Brown. He finished with 16 receptions for 176 yards, breaking Terry Glenn's record of 13 receptions. (The healing has begun) Brown probably would have come close to breaking the league record, but he was forced out of the game with a knee injury. David Patten had a quiet seven receptions for 107 yards. The running game was also there as Smith carried the ball 16 for 92 yards. The TE slot was also productive when Daniel Graham made an amazing one handed catch for an 18 yard TD strike.

Now for the past few years the defense carried this team while the offense always seemed to stall in the redzone. This day, Tom Brady and the offense helped out by keeping the team in the game when it mattered.

The Pats D didn't seem to have their minds on the game at hand, and maybe rightfully so.

Without LBs Bruschi and Phifer, it was up to Larry Izzo (5t) and Ted Johnson (8t) to stop Priest Holmes.

Let's just say, if you thought Izzo made an ass out of himself chanting "Yankees Suck" at the Super Bowl Bash last January, then you didn't see his poor performance at stopping Priest Holmes.

His worst attempt came in the final seconds of the fourth quarter when he tried to stop Holmes on a goal line stance. Instead of wrapping the body and forcing him upright he threw his body at Holmes who soft rolled left, and over the goal line with no time left on the clock. This allowed the PAT to send the game into overtime.

Ted Johnson led the team in tackles, but he lacked the Bruschi speed that was needed to stop Holmes. Another disappointment was Willie McGinest (1t) who had an off day after terrorizing QB's for the last two games. Hopefully, he can bounce back so he can properly introduce himself to QB Drew Brees this weekend.

The errors also made it's way to the coaching staff when they allowed the team go one down with 10 men on the field, they also seemed indecisive on which way they wanted the game to progress early on especially the first quarter. As for the defensive coaching, it did seem as if the secondary was lost on a few plays, and it showed.

So... Now we all know that there some cracks in the armor, but we also now know they can handle the adversity when faced with it. This now leads me to answer one of things the naysayers and fluke talkers have been saying out here -- that "This KC game proved the Pats are a fluke, wait till they play a real team like the Dolphins who are the best in the AFC."

Well to be honest, I love the Pats, but right now I think the Broncos could give the Pats some problems. As for the Dolphins... Who have they played? They beat up the Detroit Lions... Some miraculous feat there. The Jets were without Martin, and in my opinion the second most overrated team in the NFL below the Rams. Next up are the Colts, a team that has always been the Pats whipping boys. Even with Tony Dungy they still have no defense. So I guess you can say week five will answer all of our other questions.

On a final note I'd like to touch base on our sad state of affairs of the Boston Red Sox...

What is the teams' problem this time? There's no injured wrist, no Carl Everett, no Jimy Williams, no Derek Letdown, or Dan Duquette. This time we have a healthy Nomar Garciaparra, a likeable manager Grady Little, two 20 win pitchers in Pedro Martinez and Derek Lowe, and Manny Ramirez. A great recipe for an AL pennant. Instead we have to sit back another year and watch the Yankees take another title! To make matters worse, we still have idiots at the stadium wearing "Yankees Suck" paraphernalia, and chanting it out in a drunken stupor. Like a close friend of my says...

"If the Yankees suck, then I want to suck year after year, after year."

To be honest, if the Yankees do suck, then what word best describes our Red Sox?

I'm curious, so drop an answer at sinista1@msn.com. Also, check out Mista Sinista's Eye Candy at Mr. Sinista.com.

How Ignorant of me!!! I'd like to give a shout to all of the guys from our UPUFF Fantasy Football League. We had a nice tailgate this past Sunday, and it was nice to put faces with some of the guys I've been beating up on since I am 3 & 0.
