Whitney Houston Sued By Her Father
Whitney Houston is being sued for breach of contract to the tune of $100 million by her own father, John Houston.
It seems Whitney Houston’s troubles are going to continue. It has been reported that her father, John Houston, has filed a breach of contract lawsuit against her to the tune of $100 million. The elder Houston claims daughter Whitney has not paid his entertainment company, Houston Entertainment LLC, for services rendered. The lawsuit was filed on August 30 in the Superior Court’s Chancery Division in Hackensack, NJ. The suit alleges that Whitney hired her father and his partner, Kevin Skinner, to represent her in 2000 and has yet to pay them a dime.
According to the suit, Houston Entertainment LLC helped get her out of a jam in Hawaii after 15 grams of marijuana were found during a routine search at the Keahole-Kona International Airport in January 2000. Houston also helped Whitney sign a $100 million recording contract with Arista. Now the 39-year old singer is struggling with Arista to complete her overdue, unnamed album. Her new single Watchulookinat has not done as well as was expected.
Whitney’s erratic behavior as of late has been contributed to her alleged drug abuse. In the past year, there have been reports that Whitney died from an overdose. Those reports proved to be false, but when she did appear in public her once healthy frame had been reduced to an emaciated 96 pounds, reportedly from cocaine abuse. It seems like this diva has gotten a bit too big for her britches. Her endless marriage problems and legal stumbles have been easy fodder for the press over the years. Maybe the rumors about her private life were an accurate depiction of the ex-gospel singer’s problems. Maybe drugs were the only thing she could do to cope with her falling stardom. Maybe the lawsuit filed by her father will help her realize that it’s time to pull her act together. Maybe.
