NCAA -- Week 6
I don't know how this stuff can get any better. Tune in this Saturday to see!
If you weren't a fan of college football prior to last weekend, chances are good you are now.
Wow! What a weekend of football. The MAC is celebrating and two athletes in the state of Oklahoma are cherishing record-breaking performances.
Northern Illinois, Marshall and Toledo all upset top 25 teams and Miami-Ohio went into Colorado State and put a hurting on the Rams. The MAC is making a case for their inclusion into a BCS scenario and Alabama, Kansas State and Pittsburgh are all listening.
Rashaun Woods of Oklahoma State caught seven touchdown passes on Saturday night and broke a record that had stood since 1969. Antonio Perkins returned three punts for touchdowns and broke a record for return yardage against UCLA.
All this without even mentioning that Michigan State won at Notre Dame, Oregon upset Michigan, and LSU and Tennessee won huge games against conference opponents. Let's catch our breath and get ready for another great weekend of college football!
Games to Watch
1. Washington State at Oregon: Just ask Michigan how difficult it is to go out to Eugene and win. The only thing keeping this game from a battle of undefeated teams is a fourth quarter Cougar collapse in South Bend. An early season conference test to see who will challenge USC.
2. Notre Dame at Purdue: Is it beat up time again for the Big Ten over the Irish? Michigan trounced them, Michigan State upset them and now Purdue gets them in West Lafayette. It seems like ever since the Irish shunned the Big Ten by saying no thanks to joining the conference, the Big Ten teams have been less than kind to them.
3. Nebraska at Southern Miss: This is a put up or shut up game for the big red. Are they really back or is a trip to one of the toughest venues in college football too much for them? The Golden Eagles are looking to put their program back on the map and this is the kind of win that will get them there.
Great Story Lines
1. Iowa State at Northern Illinois: The Huskies have beaten a team from the ACC, and the SEC. Now, they welcome the Big 12 to town and get a chance to make it three in a row over the power conferences. This should be the easiest of the three games for NIU and will have fans of the Huskies asking, "Anyone else?"
2. Minnesota at Penn State: It's time for the Golden Gophers to put an end to the critiques about their schedule. If you had to pick a time to go to Happy Valley, this might be the right time. Which Penn State team is going to show up for the Big Ten opener?
3. TCU at Arizona: It just felt right putting Arizona on the board. After three weeks of getting hammered, you have to feel sorry for them. Maybe a trip from the Horned Frogs will ease their pain.
I hope the trend continues and the upsets and thrilling games continue. If there was any doubt that this is the greatest game of all, tune in this weekend for more proof.
