GREATEST U.S. OLYMPIC SWIMMERS OF ALL TIME TO COMPETE

New Technology Pits Different Generation Swimmers Spitz, Biondi, Crabbe, Weissmuller, and Schollander in Race to Determine Best Ever

Detroit, MI, September 20, 2000
-- At 6:00 p.m. EDT on October 1st, just prior to the closing ceremonies of the
2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, www.Cadillac.com will place on the starting
blocks five of the best male U.S. Olympic swimmers of all time and "level
the pool" via the latest computer technology to determine the best swimmer
ever. Visitors to the site can vote for their favorite swimmer, and be eligible
to win a 2001 Cadillac DeVille DTS.

The "Test of the Best" will
place Johnny Weissmuller (20's), Buster Crabbe (30's), Don Schollander (60's),
Mark Spitz (70's), and Matt Biondi (90's) in a "live" 100-yard
freestyle race, with all five swimmers theoretically benefiting from the
advantages of advanced training and technology. Cadillac will synthesize
statistical data and take advantage of current technology to determine the
probable outcome. "Technology has revolutionized the sport of swimming as
we know it today, whether it be training methods, goggles, angled starting
blocks, swimsuit designs, or even the shaving of body and facial hair,"
said Kim Kosac, Cadillac's director of advertising. "The Test of the Best
will demonstrate how swimming has evolved in the past 60 years, and provide a
unique opportunity for the public to experience how the natural athleticism of
the individual has been heightened by exacting technology and scientific
methodology to produce unprecedented results."

The ability to provide all five
swimmers with the advantages of modern training techniques and technology is
just one of the unique elements to the "Test of the Best." A second
element is the ability to make it appear as though all five swimmers are
competing simultaneously in the same event. This is accomplished by removing the
original background and placing swimmers in the new environment. Another Olympic
champion, Rowdy Gaines - three-time Gold Medallist at the 1984 Olympic Games in
Los Angeles and men's swimming commentator for NBC Sports - will announce the
race.

Cadillac has been involved in national
sports sponsorships since 1968, when it became one of two exclusive sponsors of
golf's premier event, the Masters Tournament. This past June, Cadillac returned
to the world of motorsports endurance racing with participation in the 24-Hours
of LeMans.
