Madonna’s Latest Career

Madonna’s 48-page book, The English Roses, was released worldwide on Monday in 30 languages and in 100 countries. The book deals with jealousy and envy and the devastating effects both can have on people. Madonna said she wrote the books because she faced those two evils while growing up in Michigan. She said she felt that way toward people who were prettier, more popular, or who had their mothers since she lost hers at a young age. During a press conference Madonna said, "Ultimately, what I want people to pay attention to, is the message of the story."

Madonna seems the least likely to write a children’s book. Her racy image and the fact that her only foray into the literary world prior to now was her erotic photo essay titled "Sex" in 1992. The book landed on Amazon.com’s sales list Monday at number 8 after only a few hours of availability. Proceeds from the book will go to charity, and Madonna says she is more fulfilled by her writing than anything else she has done because it wasn’t for money or fame. Madonna has written five books to be released over the next year. Each book will highlight different characters set in a different time and place and will feature different illustrators.

Now that she is a wife and mother of two, with widespread rumors that she is ready to try for a third child, she seems to be channeling her spirit through a much tamer venue.
