Having a Schedule: Key to Success

No matter what your goals in life, a schedule is a necessity.
One of the biggest drawbacks of working at home is getting distracted by all the things that need to be done. Additionally, mommy is home, and often our children don’t understand that mommy is working. The reason most of us chose to work at home is so we can be there for our family. So how do we get our job done and see to the needs of our family at the same time?

The answer lies in having a schedule. This schedule needs to be flexible to make room for the unexpected, but not so flexible that we allow anything to interfere with it. You know your life. There are things you must do everyday. Weather you realize it or not, you already stick to a schedule. So you just need to add the work related things to it.

For example, you get your kids ready for school every week day at the same time. So that is part of your schedule. Do you pick your kids up from school? Another part of your schedule. Of course, the average work at home mom, has a different schedule each week. There are doctor’s appointments, parent-teacher conferences, etc. Or perhaps you home-school your children, then, you definitely have a schedule to stick to.

Do your children take a nap? This is the perfect time to work on your business. I have found that the best way to get things done effectively in my business is when everyone is asleep. You may find this is the best time for you as well. If so, put that in your schedule and stick with it. Do you think another time would be better, then put that in your schedule and stick to it.

However you decide to schedule your time, the key is to get a schedule made. A schedule will help you make sure the key parts of your business are being taken care of. Remember, a schedule is only as good as the paper you write it on, unless you are willing to follow it.

If you don’t do this, you may find that working at home does not bring you the income you need. Then you will be in the spot that you may be forced to work outside the home. Something that work at home moms want to avoid as much as possible.
