Patriots continue winning ways, 44-7 over Jets

Skeptics, critics and sportscasters had just started to backpedal about the Pats. Now expect the apologies to begin as the the Pats lay waste to the Jets in front of their home crowd. Sinista1 also explains more on their success.
Earlier this week I got into a bit of a flame war over at FanStop.com's -- JT The Brick's Message Board, with a few of the regulars.

It all started when I posted a piece about everyone still disrespecting the Patriots, and taking them for granted or flukes. After last Monday night I had to go out and explain why people like ESPN's Chris Mortensen and NBC's Dan Marino are backpedaling about our New England Patriots. It was rough because these guys are Raider fans, and their views are still clouded by snow and alleged bad calls. Anyway KiddSlapper had my back most of the time. Today after the game I went back to the site to see if anyone had posted...

Not a thing.

Were these guys in as much shock as Herman Edwards and the rest of the Jets were? They were using last weeks game as a measuring stick as to where they were for this season. I guess it's back to the drawing board, and possibly the firing of the offensive coordinator may be in line.

Are the Pats really this good?

Hell yeah, and I'm going to tell you why.

The major reason why some people are overlooking this team is because they are only looking at the surface of the Pats.

I've been telling people all offseason, and after that Redskins game the Pats only need for Tom Brady (25 of 35 for 269 yds) to throw the long ball to survive. That was it. He's doing that, and now here is where others are missing the point of the Patriots recent success.

The PATS are DEEP... And I mean DEEP. To be honest, I think the Pats have the deepest bench with talent in the entire league. Let's start with the defense...

At safety the Pats are rotating Victor Green (1 int for 90 yd td), Tebucky Jones (1 fumble ret for td) and Lawyer Milloy. At LB, Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel, Willie McGinest, Ted Johnson, Matt Chatam, Anthony Pleasant and Roman Phifer. DT had Richard and Bernard Hosley. This is just on defense people, and all of these guys will put a lick on a WR or TE when given the chance.

On offense it's even a bigger problem for teams. You can double up on WR Troy Brown (9 for 94) all you want because it's like 1996 in New England all over again with the passes being spread out amongst some serious threats. Deion Branch (3 for 65), David Patten (4 for 65) and Donald Hayes (1 for 14). A spot that the team was lacking at last year was the TE spot and now that's become a triple threat with the hands of Cameron Cleeland (3 for 11, Christia Fauria, and Daniel Graham. All that's missing now is the emergence of a running game with Antowain Smith (15 for 66), Kevin Faulk (10 for 48), Patrick Pass (4 for 27), Marc Edwards (7 for 21) and J.R. Redmond. This should develop once teams start covering the wideouts and TE's. To be honest, the if the running game hasn't emerged by October I'd look for the Pats to trade away unless they land a healthy Jamal Anderson.

So do you want to know how bad it was down in the Meadowlands?

Let's just say there was almost a chance for QB Rohan Davey to make an appearance today.

Wait a minute -- We did see Rohan.

It was that bad. It was a sad day for any fantasy league owners who started any type of Jets player. On one drive the Pats had the ball for over six minutes. Vinny Testeverde (15 of 23 for 150 yds) and Curtis Martin (4 for 5 yds) could have sold beers in the stand it seemed so long. To be honest the Pats controlled the ball so long that the Jets offense could have went in and changed into dry uniforms with no one noticing. Then to make matters worse, the best hit of the day was Pats LB Coach Pepper Johnson on RB Chad Morton as he veered out of bounds -- and got planted.

"Suit him up BB."

For every good Jets play the Pats made two or more to top it. Actually the Pats would have scored on the first drive if Brown's reception wasn't jarred loose at the goal line.

Right now the Pats look dangerous, but there are a few things that are going to keep the skeptics alive.

They have yet to play the Dolphins.

They have yet to play the Bills.

They have yet to play the Raiders.

The Red Sox had a quick start also... This is a major thorn in New England sports fans right now.

To be honest, the next time I hear someone chanting "Yankees Suck," I wanna slap them upside the head and send them to therapy for denial.

Next week, the Pats come home to take on the Kansas City Chiefs, and to be honest... The Pats have their number, and I don't care how much Tony Gonzalez signed for, or what Chris Collinsworth has to say.
