Women's Sports Foundation® Launches GoGirlGo.com
Interactive Content Area to help girls get started in sportsEast Meadows, NY - (September 14. 2000) -- The Women's Sports
Foundation today launched an new sports content area, GoGirlGo.com, which
is designed to encourage young girls' participation in athletics. The area
supports an interactive database of more than a hundred sports and fitness activities
and can be visited via http://www.GoGirlGo.com
or http://www.WomensSportsFoundation.org.
It provides young girls with valuable information about how and when to
participate in the sport of their choice.
Sponsored by Gatorade® Thirst Quencher, the area is programmed so that with
a few clicks of a mouse, a girl can learn about a variety of sports that fit her
skill level, time commitment and overall interests via an interactive
quiz. The area also provides girls with information on sports
organizations and resources they may learn more about specific sports and find
out how to start playing right away.
"It's really about getting girls into the game to develop life
skills," said Women's Sports Foundation President Nancy
Lieberman-Cline. "We believe this content area provides valuable information
for young girls and their parents in a useful format. We hope it will help
more young women get excited about participating in and reaping the benefits of
sports."
The content area has four unique features: Get in the Game, Is it in You?,
She's da bomb!, and Dear Diva. Get in the Game allows
girls to take a quiz to find out what sports might best suit them; Is it in
You? provides visitors with nutritional information such as the right kinds
of foods and fluids to fuel their game; She's da bomb! features a
rotation of champion female athletes and highlights their careers and
accomplishments; and Dear Diva gives visitors a chance to ask the site's
"Sports Diva" an sports-related questions.
GoGirlGo.com also features weekly give-a-ways and contests.
Visitors can win prizes such as a case of Gatorade, autographed memorabilia, GoGirlGo.com
merchandise and more. Visitors can also become online members of The
Women's Sports Foundation.
"We have a vested interest in seeing young women continue to grow in
their sports participation," said Gatorade President Sue Wellington.
"Gatorade supports GoGirlGo.com because we want to help the Women's
Sports Foundation fund future athletic aspirations of young girls."
