Today, in my mind, I stood
at the edge of the universe
and looked into the infinite
Wordless Wisdom alone -

Coming back
towards earth, always
awed by its colours
this gift hung by God in the night sky
about the size of my hand -
glad to call it home
from this distance

Closer, more cluttered
now the creatures of earth
the buildings and the roads
and compassion replaces awe -
I wish to fill the universe
with this compassion
and bring the clarity
from the edge of the universe

But I cannot.
In the garden, so much lost -
until I look into the face
of the first spring flower.
