Quick hits around the league
The first week has past in the 2002 NFL season and fans have been left with some disappointments and surprises around the league.

To begin with, I was in shock when I saw the end of the Chiefs-Browns game last week. If I were coach Butch Davis I would walk to the locker of LB Dwayne Rudd, grab his shoulder pads and jersey, and toss them out the door. Then search the waiver wire for a new linebacker.
Granted, they have already lost a linebacker to a season-ending injury, but here is a guy celebrating the fact his team gave up 23 points in one quarter. He cost his team a game they should have won. Can you imagine how fired up the team would have been to never make a mistake this stupid when they see their coach toss a jersey out the locker room door then tell the guy he is history?
Two weeks ago, I spent a weekend in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The headlines down there where split between the Cowboys and Texans all week. I had my fill of the "Texas Super Bowl" after two days. I was very impressed by QB David Carr -- he did not look like a rookie in his first NFL game. The Texans defense was explosive with their 3-4 defense shaking up Dallas' offense (mostly in the third quarter). Anyone care to venture a guess as to how long Quincy Carter lasts in Dallas?
The other game I saw from beginning to end was the Packers/Falcons game. Being the Packer fan I am, I was on the edge of my chair and pacing the room at times. I watched as the Packers spent the afternoon chasing Mike Vick around legendary Lambeau Field. Vick has my vote for the Pro Bowl after this one. Had his wideouts caught passes that hit them in the chest, they would have won this game. In overtime, the Falcons gave Brett Farve three chances and you can't do this with Farve at QB. Finally, much to my relief, Ryan Longwell ended the game with a field goal in OT.
More Quick Hits
* This week should be of interest for a number of teams. Will the Rams go 0-2? I think the Giants at home could be trouble for them. If Mike Martz gambles on fourth down the way he did last week, the Rams are in trouble.
* In other games, Mike Vick should hand the Bears their first loss of the year... Look for the Dolphins to upset the Colts in the RCA Dome... The Chargers will put an end to the Texans' longest winning streak of the year... I'm also going with Drew Bledsoe and the Bills over the Vikings. Bledsoe was 26-of-39 for 271 yards last week... Look for a lot of nail-biting in Week 2, also. Most of all, enjoy the games!
