"Beyond the Glory" -- A documentary on the USA Women's Soccer team

The Fox News Network (FSN) documentary series continues on Sunday, September 16 at 8:00 pm with the stories of Michele Akers, Brandi Chastain, Mia Hamm and Shannon MacMillan.
The United States women's soccer team wallowed in obscurity for years, traveling to little known parts of the world representing the U.S., while folks at home practically ignored them.

Then, one kick opened the eyes of an entire generation.

On Sunday, Sept. 16 at 8:00 p.m. (eastern time), Fox Sports Net's critically acclaimed documentary series "Beyond the Glory" explores the compelling individual stories that make up this talented squad that captured the attention of a whole nation during the summer of '99.

This episode of "Beyond the Glory" first presents the evolution of the team and what it took to reach the final game of the 1999 Women's World Cup. The drama builds as the story of their lives is told against the waning seconds of the championship game with the women that participated in that final penalty kick shootout standing poised for their kicks on goal.

Through the words of the women, their family members and coaches, "Beyond the Glory" paints a portrait of these individuals that have overcome abuse, conquered disease, endured tragedy and developed into a family. After 15 years of striving for the country's attention, their crowning achievement came in front of 90,000 fans at the Rose Bowl on July 10, 1999.

The legacy of the World Cup team continues to be written with the formation of the WUSA, the first women's professional soccer league in the world that just completed its first season.

People interviewed for this episode include: U.S. women's soccer team members Michelle Akers, Brandi Chastain, Joy Fawcett, Julie Foudy, Carin Gabarra, Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, Shannon MacMillan, Tiffeny Milbrett, Carla Overbeck, Briana Scurry; 1999 U.S. women's team head coach and current Commissioner of the WUSA Tony DiCicco; former U.S. women's team head coach Anson Dorrance; assistant coach Lauren Gregg; team physician Dr. Rob Palumbo; founder of the Women's Sports Foundation Donna DeVarona; and various family members of the team.
