Zabinski Racing-Team Cascadia Focus On 2001 Funding, Charity
Zabinski Racing-Team Cascadia, one of the only LeMans Prototype teams based on the West coast, is starting early trying to fill its budget for 2001MONTEREY, CA -- (INTERNET WIRE) -- 09/07/00 -- Zabinski Racing-Team Cascadia,
one of the only LeMans Prototype teams based on the West coast, is starting
early trying to fill its budget for 2001. After taking almost a year off for
testing and development work on its LOLA B98/10 chassis, Team Cascadia is ready
to race and looking for sponsors to fund its endurance racing effort for 2001.
The team plans to run a 2001 season made up of events from the American
LeMans series as well as the more privateer friendly Grand-Am series. Events
will include the Daytona 24 hour race as well as Sebring, Laguna Seca, Sears
Point, Portland and others. If adequate funding can be found the team plans to
travel to LeMans in June for the world famous 24 hour race in France. Last year
a private team finished 4th overall so hopes are high for the California team.
Primary driver and 5 time champion, Ed Zabinski is returning to lead the
driver line up, with additional drivers yet to be announced. Zabinski has been
with Team Cascadia from the start and gave the team its best finish, a 4th place
overall at Sebring in 1998. "The car is great! The changes have made the
car much better. I am very excited to be part of Team Cascadia's effort in 2001.
I have been driving any kind of car I can during the past year to stay sharp,
but Sportscar Prototypes are what I enjoy driving the most." says Zabinski.
The teams' personnel also includes, Kris Mellon as engineer and Zabinski's
father-in-law, Ryan Falconer. Ryan has been building racing engines for over 30
years having won Indy in 1966, his engines have powered cars for names like
Unser, Andretti, Hendrick, and others. He now builds a V12 of his own design and
his latest V8 in the LOLA at over 600HP with restrictors is one of the most
powerful small block Chevrolets ever built.
Although the team is still searching hard for the needed funds to race, part
of the plan involves giving money away! Driver Zabinski explains, "As we
acquire the funding needed to run the team, we intend to draw other companies
into our effort by allowing them to "pledge" a certain amount of
dollars per lap that the car runs during the season. At the end of the year,
this money will be presented to a charity that our sponsors and team agree to.
It's a great way to get more people involved and it feels good doing something
important with our sport!"
With a winning combination of people, ideas and equipment in place, Team
Cascadia has a lot to look forward to in 2001!
