Cricket: Warne Injury Blow
Shane Warne received an unwanted birthday present yesterday: a bouncer right between the eyes.
Shane Warne was last night led from the field with a gash above his right eye on an eventful 37th birthday. Hours after he received an honorary doctorate from Southampton Solent University for services to cricket, Warne was injured playing for Hampshire in a Pro40 game at the Rose Bowl againstWorcestershire.
He tried to hook a delivery from his fellow Australian Matt Mason and the ball went between the grille and the peak of his helmet.
Kent's Joe Denly missed out on a century at Edgbaston in only his second appearance in the County Championship. The 20-year-old former England Under-19 opener batted for a little over three hours to make 86 in a first-day score of 358 for seven in the First Division encounter against Warwickshire.
