Whitney Houston Files for Divorce

Houston’s publicist, Nancy Seltzer, has confirmed that she has filed for divorce from Brown. The papers were reportedly technically were for a legal separation. Seltzer original said, "She has filed for divorce from Bobby Brown." She later corrected herself saying, "We’re saying she filed for divorce because that is [Whitney’s] intent." The papers were filed last Friday, September 8 on Orange Count, California and the divorce proceedings are reportedly set to start next month. The couple has a daughter 13-year old Bobbi Kristina.

Houston and Brown have been on the verge of breaking up for almost as long as they have been married. Their marriage has been clouded in rumors of physical abuse, heavy drug use, and infidelity. Back in the 80’s and early 90’s Houston was the reigning queen of R&B. Once thought to be one of the most beautiful women in the business with a voice to match she has been on a steady decline since marrying the former New Edition singer in July 1992. Houston, 43, has reportedly been battling a heavy drug addiction for the past decade or so and has not been performing.

In January, it was reported that the couple was on the verge of splitting up and Brown defended their marriage in an interview saying, "We’re here and we’re gonna be together for a long time, so people can expect us to stay together. I’m with my wife for the duration and that’s life." Hmmm…just recently it was reported that Brown was shacking up with Karrine Steffans, a one time porn star and hip-hop video darling who wrote the book Confessions of a Video Vixen.
