London 2012: Livingstone Signals Paralympic Danger

Olympic Games: The Mayor of London has warned of a low medal tally in 2012 if sports clubs fail to improve facilities to attract disabled athletes.
Sports clubs that fail to sufficiently improve facilities to attract disabled competitors should be denied public funding, according to a report unveiled by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly yesterday.

A study of facilities and programmes concludes that too little effort is being made to attract young people with disabilities into sport. Ken Livingstone and Mike Brace, the chairman of the British Paralympic Association, warned that hopes of a medals haul in the London 2012 Paralympic Games will come to nothing unless urgent action is taken. Livingstone said he plans to raise the issue with Government, particularly the schools minister Lord Adonis.
