Boeing Sells First Private Business Jet to Mainland

China's tycoons have joined the global jet set, according to Boeing, which said yesterday that it has sold its first private business plane in the world's most populous nation.

The US company said an anonymous buyer had acquired the luxury BBJ jet - which is a reconfiguration of its 149-seat 737 series and costs between £18m and £38m - through a Hong Kong agent.

With an economy growing at around 9% a year, Boeing said it expects more sales of the BBJ. Other brands are also positioning themselves for the expansion of the high-rolling segment of the consumer market.
