The striker sustained a minor knock while on international duty with France in their Euro 2008 qualifier against Italy last week, but he played on against Middlesbrough at the weekend. However, after Henry expressed concern at suffering a reaction to the problem in training this morning, Arsène Wenger has decided against risking his captain and talisman in Germany. It is a further blow to an Arsenal side which has only scored twice in three league games, though they did hit five goals in two qualifying legs, of which Henry only played 25 minutes, against Dinamo Zagreb.
Theo Walcott and new signing Julio Baptista have been named in Wenger's 18-man squad, but he is expected to start with Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie up front.
Having served a two-match suspension for his red card in last season's final defeat to Barcelona, Jens Lehmann is available to start in goal again, while William Gallas is set to make his first European appearance in an Arsenal shirt.
Gael Clichy (foot), Philippe Senderos (shoulder), Abou Diaby (ankle) and Lauren (knee) all still working on match fitness.
