Golf: The shortest round in the history of golf ended at the weekend when a charity player's opening shot scored a hole in one - at the 18th and final green.

Peter Barron skewed the ball so badly it flew 150 metres in a huge loop, over several trees and spectators and into the hole where it - and other players' balls - had not been expected for at least an hour.
Mr Barron, 43, the editor of the Northern Echo, was given a round of applause at the Blackwell Grange golf club in Darlington. He said: "I am so bad at golf that I will never get a real hole in one so I will settle for this happily."
