American Idol Kelly Clarkson to Sing on 9/11

American Idol Kelly Clarkson is set to sing "The Star Spangled Banner" at a special commemoration at Washington’s Lincoln Memorial on Sept 11.
The "United Day of Service" will mark the first anniversary of the attacks. Clarkson’s management company, 19 Entertainment, teamed with the D.C. based charity Champions of Hope to organize the event. Clarkson wanted to withdraw from singing due to the fact that some people were concerned that her appearance was being used as a "publicity stunt" or a "big promotional opportunity" and may detract from what the day is really about. Clarkson originally wanted to back out of singing but it has been announced that she will perform the national anthem.

Clarkson won the title of "American Idol" after beating out 10,000 other would-be singers. She won a $1 million recording contract with RCA Records and her first CD will debut on November 26. She will also be part of a 28-city tour starting in October, which will feature all 10 finalists and will reunite with the 30 semifinalists for a two-hour Fox special – a live performance from Las Vegas on September 23.

The 20-year old former cocktail waitress is in the midst of a whirlwind. Her life has begun and will continue to change drastically. Magazine covers, tours, Hollywood parties, maybe even guest appearances on hit shows. Clarkson’s head must be spinning. What will become of the Texan? Will she be a bright and shining star in Hollywood or will she follow the paths of some of her idols - like Whitney with drugs, Mariah with breakdowns and Celine with marriage troubles? Hopefully she has what it takes to be a star.
