NCAA: College Football Week 3: 25 Things I Know I Know

Lou Holtz is sane after all. Jim Donnan will walk after this year in Athens. Ron who? And a different Desert Storm in Tuscon.

In a wild week of college football, here are some things I know for sure. I dare you to question my knowledge:

1. Julius Jones is going to be a star running back at Notre Dame. Possibly better than his brother, Thomas, who now plays for the Cardinals.

2. Lou Holtz is, in fact, very sane. Kudos to him for throwing out his '99 playbook and implementing a spread offense that showcases 4 and 5 receiver sets.

3. Chris Weinke is now the Heisman front-runner. All he did Saturday was throw for 443 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Nebraska's Eric Crouch, and Purdue's Drew Brees are a close second. Everyone else is in a galaxy far, far away.

4. Miami is still a year away and WR Santana Moss has no chance of winning the Heisman.

5. QB Woodrow Dantzler and Clemson are the dark horse pick to win the national championship this year. They will be scary good this year. Saint Bobby should watch out.

6. The PAC-10 is soo back this year. They are a combined 12-2 vs non-conference foes. Next up? Texas at Palo Alto next week. Could be interesting.

7. Oregon is the best team that everyone pretends is not.

8. Georgia's Quincy Carter will not win the Heisman. 5 interceptions tends to do that. Jim Donnan will get his walking papers after the season.

9. Someone told me the other day that defensive coordinators never make good head coaches. But at North Carolina State that won't be true because Chuck Amato went out and got himself one of the real offensive geniuses in the country in Norm Chow (from BYU). Not to mention NCSU has the best true freshman QB in the country in Phillip Rivers.

10. Bob Knight is a moron.

11. FSU's Chris Weinke isn't the only old man QB in the country (he's 28). LSU's Josh Booty is 25.

12. USC and Washington could be the two best teams in the PAC-10 this year, but they don't play each other and things could get sticky in late November concerning the Rose Bowl.

13. Virginia Tech is not just Michael Vick University.

14. The Atlantic Coast Conference is much better than media types claim.

15. Army and Navy should not be allowed to field Division I-A football teams.

16. Florida State's defense is suspect against crafty offensive coordinators (see Steve Spurrier).

17. ESPN's Chris Fowler has the best job in the world.

18. I'm thinking Barry Alvarez isn't too concerned about Ron Dayne's departure. Michael Bennett ran 28 times, for 290 yards and two TD's against Oregon.

19. The Big 10 isn't the Big 10 this year.

20. Auburn's Rudi Johnson is the best Heisman hopeful no one ever mentions.

21. QB Major Applewhite is still the man at Texas. Bloodlines should never precede experience.

22. Georgia Tech has played Florida State tougher than anyone in the country over the past two seasons.

23. Ohio State's defense man handled Arizona QB, Ortege Jenkins, sacking him 7 times. John Cooper had a happy return to Tuscon. The last time Cooper visted Tucson, his Arizona State Sun Devils lost, but that was in 1985. Cooper has won 19 straight games in the month of September.

24. Alabama and Mike Dubose need a QB to step up now!

25. College football is so much better than pro football.
