Actress Kim Delaney has had problems with her drinking in the past, but apparently hitting the bottle has cost her her son. 15-year old Jack Cortese testified in a Santa Monica court recently that his mother "embarrassed" him when she showed up at a friend’s house drunk and insisting he come with her. Said Cortese, "I attempted to keep her from driving her car, but she was very demanding. My mother demanded that my friend go with us. He refused to drive with her because she was drunk." He also said, "Unfortunately, this is not the only incident in which I have seen my mother drunk."

Cortese is currently living with Delaney’s ex-husband, Joe Cortese. He said he hasn’t seen his mother since August 11 and said, "I do not want to be with her until she has completed rehab and is sober. I am very concerned for my safety when I am with her." Delaney has apparently battled the bottle for years. She was arrested in January 2002 on suspicion of driving under the influence after another motorist witnessed her erratic driving behavior. She maintained that she was not under the influence and pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

In March 2003, Delaney checked herself into an Arizona rehab facility for treatment of alcohol abuse. Her publicist said at the time, "Due to a stressful year, Delaney made the decision to enter a rehab prevention program, as staying healthy is very important to her." Maybe since losing custody of her son, Delaney will get her act together.
