NFL: Pigskin's Pool Pick: Titans, Skins Headed For Showdown
The first football pool form inspires a Super Bowl pick and one-line analysis of each NFL team.
The first pro football pool of the season landed on my desk today, which can only mean one thing: I’ll need a lot of clicks on this article to cover my losses. We’ll eventually join picks pools with and without spreads, fantasy leagues, King of the Hill and every other variation on the theme.
But this particular pool invites just one pick: Super Bowl winner, loser and final score. So here goes: Titans 30, Skins 13. Of course, there’s no way that’s right, so in the hopes of getting enough clicks to cover at least that loss, here is a one-line analysis of each NFL team.
AFC East
Indianapolis Colts: Tough to top best Big Three since Dallas dominated.
Buffalo Bills: Will make a move when Flutie takes the helm.
New York Jets: Will the real Vinny Testaverde please stand up…or sit down?
New England Patriots: Not good enough to waive Ben Coates.
Miami Dolphins: Fish flounder without Marino.
AFC Central
Tennessee Titans: Freak show flies to Tampa via Air McNair
Jacksonville Jaguars: Another top-notch Big Three when Taylor is healthy.
Baltimore Ravens: Defense carries the day.
Pittsburgh Steelers: The only other team in the division with any remaining pride.
Cincinnati Bengals: No one could be worse than Cleveland.
Cleveland Browns: See above.
AFC West
Seattle Seahawks: Someone has to win this division.
Oakland Raiders: Potentially potent offense once ball leaves Gannon’s hands.
Denver Broncos: Will go as far as Davis takes them.
San Diego Chargers: Opponents not shaking like a Leaf.
Kansas City Chiefs: Elvis should leave the building.
NFC East
Washington Redskins: Loaded…Arrington is FreakII…Deion ready for Prime Time.
Dallas Cowboys: More star power than the rest of the division.
New York Giants: Enough playmakers to compete.
Arizona Cardinals: Jake the Snake good for a few wins.
Philadelphia Eagles: Donovan is no Hurdy Gurdy Man.
NFC Central
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Most offensive threats in the league.
Minnesota Vikings: Moss is too much for most.
Green Bay Packers: Favre still the league’s best QB.
Chicago Bears: McNown ready to step up.
Detroit Lions: Too many health questions.
NFC West
St. Louis Rams: Defending champs deserve some respect.
Atlanta Falcons: Next best talent in division.
New Orleans Saints: Important year for Ricky Williams
Carolina Panthers: Can’t be worse than Niners.
San Francisco 49ers: Woeful defense will keep rejuvenated Rice out of play.
