After 17-year old Solange announced that she had married college football player Daniel Smith in the Bahamas in February there was a lot of speculation that she was expecting. Reports were that she was afraid an out of wedlock birth would hurt her up and coming career. A source close to her revealed at the time, "Solange is pregnant but she didn’t want anyone to know that’s why she got married." The source added, "Solange and the rest of the family were hoping everyone would believe she conceived after she married Daniel." Others speculated that her very Christian father strongly advised the couple to get married.

Over 300 hundred friends and family members attended a baby show this past weekend in honor of the expectant mother. Guests included older sister Beyonce, her boyfriend Jay-Z, and her Destiny’s Child co-horts Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland. Guests were entertained with singing and dancing and the guests said it was a very "personable" shower and it was a "celebration of new life."

With fellow singer Brandy coming out of a media blitz after it was reported that her marriage and subsequent divorce were faked to protect her image when she turned up unwed and pregnant, let’s just hope that Solange and Daniel made it official. Solange’s career is on the up and up. She recently co-starred in her first feature film Johnson Family Vacation, released her second CD, and is set to star in a new UPN sitcom. All this and she continues her work as a celebrity spokesperson against teen violence. Add wife and mother to the resume and that equals a pretty full life for any 18-year old.
