Mel Gibson’s Troubles Continue
Actor-director Mel Gibson is now facing criminal charges stemming from his disastrous drunken driving arrest last week.
By: Shannon Gossage
Gibson, 50, was charged Wednesday with two misdemeanor driving under the influence counts and one vehicle code infraction of driving with an open bottle of liquor in his car. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Gibson faces up to six months in jail if convicted. His troubles started last Friday when he was arrested for drunken driving after he was clocked doing in excess of 85 mph on the Pacific Coast Highway. Upon being pulled over officers allegedly found an open bottle of tequila in Gibson’s Lexus and according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office his blood alcohol content was 0.12.
This may be the least of Gibson’s worries. During his arrest Gibson reportedly displayed anti-Semitic behavior and blamed "the f’ing Jews" for "all the wars in the world." Gibson’s rant has caused a huge controversy in Hollywood. Some actors and agents have publicly spoken out against Gibson refusing to support him or ever work with him in the future. Super agent Ari Emanuel, who was the basis for the character Ari Gold on HBO’s hit show Entourage, has spoken out against Gibson urging others to avoid working with him in the future. Actor Rob Schneider has taken out a full-page ad in Variety stating that he wouldn’t work with Gibson even if he was offered the lead Passion of the Christ Part 2. The ad ran in Thursday’s paper and Schneider wrote, "I, Rob Schneider, ½ Jew, pledge from this day forward to never work with Mel Gibson, actor-director-producer and anti –Semite."
Gibson has entered a rehabilitation facility and has publicly apologized to everyone he offended, especially the Jewish community. Gibson has battled with alcoholism for years. After his arrest, Gibson called his relapse "horrific." Gibson allegedly spent the evening at a restaurant in Malibu called Moonshadows. He reportedly turned down a few offers for a ride home from some concerned patrons at the restaurant. Bet right about now he is wishing he had taken someone up on their offer…
