Suri Cruise’s Bronzing

The bronzed sculpture will go on display Wednesday at the Capla Kesting Fine Art gallery in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg gallery district. The "fine art" is inspired by the fact that four-month-old Suri Cruise has probably eaten her first solid meal and the art is a replica of the after events of that meal. David Kesting, the director of Capla Kesting Fine Art, said, "Babies mostly breastfeed for the first four months, so a baby’s first meal of solid food may be a baby’s first meal at the dinner table." He went on to say, "A bronzed cast of baby’s first poop can be a meaningful memento for the family." Uh, yeah. Whatever happened to bronzing baby shoes?

The display will run through September and then will be auctioned off on eBay. All proceeds will benefit the March of Dimes foundation. It has been reported that "limited edition" plaster replicas will also be for sale. The man behind the idea is Daniel Edwards, who also did a sculpture of a naked Britney Spears giving birth on a bearskin rug titled Monument to Pro-Life: The Birth of Sean Preston. Guess art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.

A statement was released by the gallery that read, "It’s partially a statement on modern media that ‘celebrity poop’ has more entertainment value than health, famine or other critical issues facing society and governments today, and also the absurdity of the media coverage on Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ new baby, Suri Cruise, which has reached stellar proportions, eclipsing far more notable events with more substance." Baby Cruise has remained under wraps since her birth in April. A few select friends of Cruise and Holmes’ have copped to Suri sightings, but she has yet to be seen by the public. It has been reported that little Suri will make her modeling debut at the age of four months this fall in the pages of Vanity Fair magazine.
