No Mike Williams, no problem
Reggie Bush leads USC to a victory over Bryan Randell and the Virginia Tech Hokies.
Southern Cal found out just a few days before their first game that Mike Williams, their star receiver would not be eligible to play.
However, USC was prepared. They had another weapon, another superstar in the making.
Nicknamed "The President," Reggie Bush, a multi purpose back from Spring Valley, California, took over the superstar role for the Trojans.
Bush was primarily a running back in 2003, running 90 times for 521 yards and catching 15 passes for 314 yards.
On Saturday against Virginia Tech, the USC star caught five passes for 127 yards, and ran nine times for 27 yards.
Behind Bush, USC defeated Virginia Tech 24-13. He scored three receiving touchdowns, which is one less than he scored all of last year in that category.
With the Hokies up 10-7 in the third quarter Matt Leinhart hit Bush streaking down the left side for a 53 yard touchdown putting USC up 14-10.
Bryan Randell, who threw for 152 yard and ran for 82 more, drove his team into USC territory but could only manage a field goal.
Leinhart and Bush struck for the final time with 5:35 left in the game, on the right sideline for a 29-yard touchdown. Leinhart, who is a Heisman candidate, finished 19-29 for 272 yards.
Sophomore Reggie Bush was Mr. Everything for the Trojans in their opening game. With the men of Troy down 10-7 who did Pete Carroll call on when he needed a score? Reggie Bush.
When USC needed a 3rd down conversion, who was the answer? Reggie Bush.
When the Trojans wanted to put the finishing touches on the game, who did they call on? Reggie Bush.
Of the 24 points So Cal scored, Bush scored 21 of them. He did it all returning kickoffs, punts, and always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.
Southern California didn't seem to skip a beat offensively even though they were missing their number one target.
USC was prepared to play with out Williams, and they are prepared to win a second consecutive title with out Williams because of another future superstar.
