Public Transportation

Americans love their cars. Driving is one behavior that distinguishes them from other nationalities. Americans drive more than anyone else.

There is nothing wrong with this. However our love affair with the automobile should not diminish the necessity of public transportation.

Public transportation is reasonably priced access to buses and trains. This type of transportation is not limited to the poor or the elderly. Many people commute by train to avoid traffic jams and the expensive parking fees.

I use the commuter rail whenever I work in Boston or Cambridge. I can relax on the train, read a book, or write an article. This is better than sitting in traffic.

Public transportation is important to a town or city. It makes a community accessible. Not only does it provide alternative transportation for those that cannot or choose not to drive, but also serves as a means for people to visit and do business in that community. Public transportation is an asset for any community's downtown area.

All communities need some form of public transportation. It benefits every one.

What type of public transportation does your community have?
