Vin Diesel: Ego Check?
Word on the street in Hollywood these days is that Vin Diesel, star of this year’s XXX, has fast and furiously grown an extra large ego.
It has been reported that Diesel, who shot to stardom with his role in The Fast and the Furious, has recently signed with the same public relations company that Tom Cruise uses and feels as if he deserves the same treatment as Cruise. He told a publicist at the company, "I want all the same covers as Tom Cruise." Come on, Vin. Just because you are a hot commodity in Hollywood at this minute doesn’t mean you should let it go to your head. Tom Cruise earned more than his fifteen minutes, you haven’t yet.
Reportedly, on August 8 for an appearance on the Today show, he showed up sporting an entourage of 10, including his two personal publicists. A source said, "He thinks he is Elvis." One Today show staffer claimed they thought the President was about to arrive. He has a great look, but looks only go so far. And as far as talent goes…Are we sure we want to place ourselves in Cruise territory?
Diesel, born Mark Vincent, used to work as a bouncer before being discovered. Steven Spielberg tapped him to play a part in his hit Saving Private Ryan after seeing s short film Diesel had done. That part led to appearances in Boiler Room, Pitch Black and he was the voice of The Iron Giant. The Fast and the Furious was his break-out role and he has already been signed for a sequel to that as well as a number of other XXX movies. He better keep that ego in check because he can always be X’d out.
