Orlando -- Can they win this year?
The Orlando Magic got the number one pick and the steal of the draft in Dwight Howard. So, can they finally win this year?
With the number one overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft ... the Orlando Magic pick ... Dwight Howard!
Reliving those words over and over in my mind at a pace not even I can keep up with I see Orlando making yet another huge mistake.
When they drafted yet another straight out of high school player they probably killed their team, or so I thought.
Then, later in the draft, Jameer Nelson finally got drafted by none other than the Denver Nuggets.
Time flew by and a trade was announced.
Nelson was to be a member of the Magic's rebuilding team.
So, now the Magic have a great lineup for the year, but can it succeed, especially with Shaquille O'Neal in the east?
The Magic have a problem now. They have two all-star caliber point guards.
Steve Francis may be getting older, but he can still hit a jump shot.
Nelson may be shorter, but to him the goal is seven-feet wide.
Who do you expect to start? I would imagine Francis would get the nod because of his veteran status.
So, what do they do with Nelson? Trade him?
They could put Francis at the two-spot for a game to see how that would go.
Otherwise, only one of the two will get major playing time, which is a downfall to the backup for sure.
A question of consistency is going to be a normal for Orlando this year, but with young blood that is normal.
Francis and Kevin Cato can't carry this team. No one can carry a team, except maybe Shaq.
So, what do you expect out of the Magic this year? Can they win? Will they win? Who will start at the point?
All these questions will be answered come start of the 2004-05 NBA season.
