Scarlett Johansson Crashes Fleeing Paparazzi
Scarlett Johansson was recently involved in an accident as she attempted to lose a caravan of paparazzi that had been following her.
The incident apparently occurred in or near the parking lots of Disneyland in California. Johannson was reportedly traveling with a small group of friends when the actress noticed four SUVs following her through traffic. The SUVs contained a group of paparazzi that had been following her for a few days and had tracked her to Anaheim. The vehicle Johannson was driving eventually collided with another vehicle carrying and mother and her two daughters.
The Lost in Translation star remained calm in the moments after the accident, as evidenced by her recorded call to 911. "Hi, we've just gotten into an accident," she told the dispatcher. "Unfortunately we have a bunch of paparazzi cars also following us." The dispatcher offered what seemed to be a sympathetic ear and asked, "About the media, are they starting to cause problems?"
If you asked any Hollywood personality these days, the answer to that question would undoubtedly be a resounding "yes". The August 18th incident involving Johannson came only two weeks after a similar accident occurred while Lindsay Lohan was being stalked by the paparazzi. In that instance, Lohan's vehicle was struck by one being driven by a photographer. The tabloids and other "publications" that finance the celebrity-stalking paparazzi are quick to point to the public's undying appetite for such "journalism." But you have to wonder what's really driving the phenomenon. If tabloids stopped paying thousands of dollars for often-innocuous photos of celebrities, would the sales of their magazines truly suffer? It seems unlikely.
