The Bachelor Raises the Bar

This season of The Bachelor will feature a number of twists including two bachelors and a higher age range.
This go-round producers decided to shake things up a bit since the past 5 bachelors have not hit a homerun in the love department. First of all, there is not one, but two bachelors that the women will have to choose to be the winner during the two-hour September 22 season opener, dubbed the "Lady's Choice Ceremony." Another twist is that both bachelors are 40, significantly older than the past bachelors. Producers are hoping that a hike in age will lead to a more successful season. Out of the past bachelors, the longest relationship only lasted a mere eight months.

The two bachelors competing to find his love match are Jay Overbye, a former model and world traveler from New Jersey, and Byron Velvick, a bass fisherman from California. The 25 ladies will vote who they want to compete for and the winner will be announced Sept 22. Other twists include the return of two Bachelor "all-stars" that will join the women sometime during the season. The Bachelor will live in the house with the women and the ages of the bachelorettes range from 26-39.

Hopefully, with a more mature crowd, this season will be a success. So far the men are 0 for 5 for a love match while the bachelorettes are 2 for 2. Season 1 bachelorette Trista Rehn married her suitor Ryan Sutter and Season 2's Meredith Phillips and Ian McKee are living together and talking about marriage. ABC is banking on a hat trick with Bachelorette III's Jen Scheft to air in January.
