Bolton-born teenage boxer Amir Khan secured a medal for Britain by stopping South Korea's Baik Jong-sub in the first round to make the semi-finals of the Olympic tournament.

The revelation of the competition, the 17-year-old lightweight produced another stunning display, totally outclassing his opponent, who was sent back to his corner by the referee with 23 seconds remaining in the opening round. Khan, trying to become the youngest Olympic champion since American Floyd Patterson in 1952, will meet Serik Yeleuov of Kazakhstan on Friday for a place in the final.

The losers of the semi-finals get a bronze medal.
