The ultimate road trip - Week 1
This week we will preview the first three games of our road trip. We'll travel the first 2800 miles that will eventually bring us to the Rose Bowl in January
Miles traveled (week) 2,818 Miles traveled (season) 2,818 * All trips leave from Pittsburgh, PA
August 23 - New Mexico State at Louisville (-20) August 25 - TCU at Nebraska (-30) August 26 - Syracuse at Georgia Tech (-7')
New Mexico State at Louisville Louisville will go as far as quarterback Dave Ragone can take them. He was the C-USA offensive player of the year last year and should be better this year. New Mexico State was the sixth-best rushing team in the nation in 2000 and has ranked in the top 20 in total offense for the past three seasons. The team with the better defense wins this one.
TCU at Nebraska This is the first of eight home games for the Huskers this year and Nebraska has not lost an opener since 1985. Nebraska must try to get past all the off-the-field problems that are plaguing this team. Three players have been arrested since last season, and one player was kicked off the team for undisclosed disciplinary reasons. TCU has had problems of their own, primarily LaDainian Tomlinson heading to the San Diego Chargers. There's really no reason to think that Nebraska won't win their sixteenth consecutive home opener on Saturday.
Syracuse at Georgia Tech This should be the best game of the week for us. Quarterback, George Godsey will be the key in this game. Godsey is returning from a torn ACL and will have his work cut out for him with Syracuse DE Dwight Freeney. Freeney sacked Michael Vick 4-1/2 times last year in a near upset over Virginia Tech. With Georgia Tech at home we'll give them the nod.
Handicapper's Corner ($100 per week) Take Louisville for $30, Nebraska for $40, and Georgia Tech for $30.
