Snakes in a Cinema Rattle Moviegoers in Arizona
Fact and fiction came unnervingly close for cinemagoers in Arizona watching the film Snakes on a Plane when a diamondback rattlesnake was released into the auditorium as a joke. Another was found in the car park of the cinema in Phoenix last week. Both were removed without anyone being harmed.
But the Phoenix Herpetological Society described the prank as "very reckless ... The snakes' bite carries a venom that could have seriously injured someone". The film, starring Samuel L Jackson, achieved cult status prior to its launch last week, not least because of its title.
