It has been announced that actress Brittany Murphy has called off her engagement to Joe Macaluso, a production assistant.

Murphy’s rep announced that the couple has "amicably ended their engagement." No word yet on what caused the split. Her rep went on to say that they "remain close friends and wish each other mush happiness." Murphy and Macaluso met on the 2004 set of her movie Little Black Book. Macaluso was a best boy grip and the two began dating shortly after filming wrapped. Macaluso popped the big question on New Year’s Eve but a wedding date was never announced.

It has not been announced just when the couple decided to call it quits. Murphy was at the Teen Choice Awards last week. While walking the red carpet she was asked how her wedding planning was going. She reportedly seemed startled by the question and answered, Everything is going wonderful, thank you. I’m just living every moment, you know, enjoying my life."

This is the second broken engagement for Murphy. She was previously engaged to talent manager Jeff Kwatinetz in January 2004. The couple split less than five months later following a rocky trip to Paris. It was reported that Kwatinetz was still in love with his ex Michelle Dupont. Murphy has been very busy and reportedly has six films in the works. She is set to star in the comedy The Ramen Girl, will lend her voice to the animated film Tinker Bell, will reprise her role in Sin City 2, and has reportedly signed on to star in the romantic comedy Boyfriend-in-a-Box. Seems like she could use a "boyfriend-in-a-box" right about now.
