Offense stutters and other preseason woes
Mista Sinista delivers some preseason thoughts, and tries to tell Pats Fans not to push the panic button.
Okay, the Pats may have defeated the Eagles last Saturday night, and I'll even go a further step to predict that they'll beat the Panthers this Friday night. But, the feelings about QB Tom Brady in this area, are starting to show, and as far as I'm concerned, I feel sorry for Brady.
It's still way to early to start pushing panic buttons, but there is already talk among the Bledsoe supporters, and some sport writers, that the Pats gave up the farm to quickly.
Now if you remember, the Sinista1 voiced his opinion at the end of last year's magical journey. I knew this team could not enter training camp with the two QB's they had. I was hoping for Bledsoe to stick around, but once the Pats claimed that Lombardi trophy under a superb team effort, I knew the Bledsoe Bashers were going to have their way.
Now, there were some bashers who had common football knowledge and will tell you that Brady had a lot of help to complete that journey. There are some who will also say letting go of Drew was a bad idea.
Well, it's too late to cry over that spilled milk. The deal is done, and everyone involved is going to rake in some serious revenue from ratings, merchandise and advertising.
I really don't want to make an article out of this, so I'll keep my Brady thoughts short and sweet.
I've said it before, Brady NEEDS the LONG ball to survive in this league. The Pats can sign all of the TE's (Short Pass mercs) they want. If he can't hit WR's Donald Hayes, Troy Brown and Deion Branch after 35 yards or longer the team will have problems.
As for the rest of the offense, it's not Brady's fault that the team can't find the endzone from the redzone. That has been an ongoing problem at the beginning of every season, and these things tend to happen when you're missing O-Linemen, and Offensive C.O. Charlie Weis for the first part of the preseason.
As for the defense, what can you say? On paper we have a secondary that sends chills up anyone's spine, which is why I feel SS Victor Green will be our best off season signing.
Just remember, we are only halfway through the pre-season, and the biggest cuts are yet to be made. There's still a lot of work to be done on both sides of the ball. After this week things should start to pan out and we'll begin to get a good look at what our 2002 roster will look like.
On that note, I'd like to touch base on the new Stadium. I was there for the first soft opening with the Revolution, (I can't believe I admitted that.) and things went somewhat smooth, but it wasn't a full house.
Last Saturday night it was a full house, and I was very impressed how thing progressed within the stadium. With a concourse for each tier, the concession and bathroom lines were next to none. The traffic and lot control were another issue as we came up Route 1 from 495. Lot P8 was supposed to be opened to the public, but it was closed forcing all of the traffic to Lot P6, but after almost a 45-minute wait they decided to close P6,and began to shuffle traffic on to the next entrance. Luckily, this immediately was found to be a bad idea, and P6 was quickly reopened, and we entered. We arrived in the stadium as the Eagles were being announced. Hopefully, this problem will be corrected by Friday night.
Now, it seems like I'm rushing this piece, maybe it's because I just recently got my hands on the new SEGA NFL2K3 for XBOX, and I'm going through some gridiron withdrawals. I'll be giving a full review on this game next week so keep an eye open.
