9/11 Images to Return

As the 1st anniversary of 9/11 approaches, the networks are sorting out exactly how they are going to honor the fallen and exactly what images to show.
The images that are burned into the collective memory of the United States have not been readily shown for many months since the first days following the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. It seems as if we see them daily, the shots of the second plane impacting the second tower of the World Trade Center, while the first tower burns and the smoke billows out. These images are still circulated, but they are primarily still photos, not the live action shots that are, for some, too powerful to watch.

As September 11, 2002 approaches, the major media networks are trying to find the appropriate balance between remembering the victims and the impact on this country and the importance of keeping the reality of what happened in the minds of all Americans. As the next phases of the War on Terror continue to be debated, many in the political arena will look to the revived images of 9/11 to instill a patriotic surge in this country to push through whatever political and military agendas are on the table. This is something that the networks are aware of and their position on such political matters will probably influence their coverage of 9/11.

What does all this mean to the average American? The average American will have to decide, a year later, what 9/11 really meant. What it means for the past and what it means for the future. The images that the networks show and the manner in which they cover the events of a year ago are going to determine, in large part, how this nation will view the ongoing struggle that is the War on Terror. Within that struggle there is much at stake, politically, socially, morally, and on almost every level that involves being a citizen of this country.
Should the U.S. attack Iraq?
Yes
No
Only if proof is found of the existence of weapons of mass destruction
Only with the more international support
A diplomatic means of a regime change should be found
